It was also the scene where the Von Trapps climbed over the mountain to escape the Nazis at the end of the movie....which if they had actually climbed over Untersberg mountain they would have found themselves in Germany which is not the direction you would want to head towards if your plan was to escape Nazis in the late 1930s.
